Short Biography
Raffaele Cioffi has a degree in Chemical Engineering at the University "Federico II" of Naples.
He is full professor at the University of Naples "Parthenope" and teaches Construction Materials Science and Technology and Materials Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering at the same University.
He has been the Director of the Department of Technology (now Department of Engineering), he is the president of the Teaching Board for Management Engineering Course and he is the coordinator of the Technical and Scientific Committee for the Master Course in "Safety Engineering" of the University of Naples " Parthenope". He is the director of the Research Quality Centre of the University of Naples "Parthenope".
He is member of board of Direction of Italian Association on Materials Engineering (AIMAT) and American Concrete Institute (ACI) Italy Chapter. He is, also, member of the of the Environmental Chemistry Division of the Italian Chemical Society (SCI), of Italian Association on Chemistry in Engineering (AICIng) and of the International Society for the Environmental and Technical Implication of Construction with Alternative Materials (ISCOWA).
He is reviewer for Waste Management, Journal of Hazardous Materials and Construction and Building Materials Elsevier's Journals. He is reviewer for the Italian University and Research Ministry for Research Projects of Great Interest.
His main research activities concern: the stabilization/solidification of hazardous industrial solid wastes, soils and sediments; the preparation of energy saving blended cements, concrete and geopolymers materials made with coal fly ashes, blast furnace slag, chemical gypsum, powdered tuff, lead smelter slag, MSWI ashes, etc.; the durability of the products, obtained through the formation of calcium silicate and thisulphoaluminate hydrates, has been also studied in the presence of both chlorides and sulphates; the inertization by mechanochemical treatments of industrial and asbestos-containing wastes, and sediments and the reuse of the obtained products as building materials; life cycles assessment (LCA) of production processes of eco-compatible construction materials.
